Websites redesigned and realigned
December 5th, 2005, By Ovi Demetrian Jr
A while ago, there was an article on realigning a website. It’s a concept that, to me, makes perfect sense. In fact, the first website that I ever did for a client I ‘realigned’ about a year after the original was launched. Since then, I’ve did the same to a few other sites I’ve done and a couple based on someone else’s design concepts.
My latest project was a combination of both redesigning and realigning. As part of the company’s brand update, the idea was to use some elements from the previous site and also match the company’s current print collateral.
When it comes to my own website projects, I always feel the need to redesign, never completely satisfied with the way the previous version turned out. The biggest examples of this have been Cinemenium.com, which I’ve redesigned three times and realigned once, gottoseeit.com, redesigned four times and my portfolio site (you’re looking at it), redesigned four times.
I’ve decided to post the previous versions of this site up and attempt to explain why I felt the redesigns were necessary at the time.
- v1 – Since this was the first, its purpose was to showcase the handleful of work I did at the time.
Lifespan: 3 years.
- v2 – Simplified approach, keeping the attention on the work, instead of itself.
Lifespan: 1 year.
- v3 – All-Flash version seemed like the way to go.
Lifespan: 5-6 months.
- v4 – Similar design of previous version, this was my jump into developing with web standards.
Lifespan: 5-6 months.
