Quick Review: Game Boy Micro

July 27th, 2006

Part of my interest in Microsoft’s UltraMobile PC was to install emulators for gaming systems of the past to enjoy some casual, portable gaming. I originally hesitated getting the Game Boy Micro since its screen size seemed too small, but the games I’ve played so far changed my mind. They seem perfect for the format.

The game cartridges aren’t too bad since they’re not too small or delicate. Although it could have technology similar to music players where games are downloaded to the device. It seems like Microsoft’s Zune portable gaming device may do just that, and wirelessly. If not, it should.

The Game Boy Micro is pretty nice to handle, is very portable, and has interchangable faceplates (like some cell phones). But ultimately, I got it because of its games. Nintendo is always good with their games.

People may be excited over the idea of an iPod phone, but I would be more excited for a Game Boy phone. The Game Boy Micro is about the size of my cell phone and has the same size screen. My phone already plays MP3s so I figure this would be the next thing it needs.

3 and a half out of 4
